It's just miserable women with no purpose in life and lefty agitators dreaming things up to crusade against cos they're not prepared to tackle real serious issues like FGM, child prostitution and honour killings.

I overheard (honestly) someone on Women's Hour this week, saying that children should be told they don't have to hug or kiss their granny, because it leads them to think that their body is not their own, and that their consent is not required to something they might not want to do. If children are forced to hug their grannies, they may grow up to be rape victims because they do not learn about refusing consent.
Bollocks.

Cheers, will take a look sometime

As someone said often stories were meant to present some social message and can understand some ugly old man writing Beauty & the Beast trying to plant the idea that it’s socially acceptable for young beautiful women to have suitors who are ugly old men in an attempt to be said ugly old man who bends one up some young woman.

There's a psychologist called Jordan Peterson (more famous for other things) who dissects childrens' stories, fairytales, myths legends and bible stories etc. like that.

Things like Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Beauty and The Beast etc. all have underlying primal psychological or sociological "messages" etc.

It's really interesting stuff and I wish to fucking God I was half as intelligent enough to be able to relay what he talks about or even summarise it on here.

All this stuff is on YouTube. It's really worth checking out if you've got some spare time.

The history of some of these stories are often quite interesting and lots of kids stories are actually quite horrific when you think about it. The best idea is not to think about it or take it too literally

I was coming home on a bus last weekend and the woman behind me was reading her little girl The Three Little Pigs 🐖 🐖 🐖 story.
Obviously haven’t heard that for a long time and was slightly taken aback how matter of fact the wolf blowing down the houses and eating pig 1 & pig 2 was presented.
The pigs are torn limb from limb and GORGED on FFS & the kid didn’t bat an eyelid.

I reckon the internet is to blame. A thick woman gets a bee in her bonnet and all of a sudden we have to be bothered about a nursery rhyme being sexist.

What about the fact we still preach bollocks about reindeer that fly; bearded men coming down your chimney at night; tooth fairies that change teeth into money; super heros that fight super crooks; kids fighting wars and killing people on their computers and a government that gives financial aid to religious schools to preach their entirely imaginary mythologies and especially those that preach hatred for anyone different like - women, gays, Christians, other Islamics and anyone different to their own warped and middle-aged view of the world...

The woman probably should not read the 17th century version of the story then.

The princess is put to sleep by a sliver of flax in her finger, a king finds her "takes her first fruits of love" and leaves. From the encounter, she has twins while unconscious and one of the twins starving sucks the flax from her finger and she wakes with two kids.

or is it ACTUALLY the case that she's a right munter herself, so doesn't want the idea of beauty being propagated?

Its stuff like this that makes sane rational people lose the plot!
So if I kiss my wife goodbye when she's asleep and I am going to work early that's wrong? I f I kiss my kids goodnight when they are asleep that's wrong?

But as she's from near Newcastle that explains a lot as they see lots of snowflakes in the north!

I agree about BMI but not in my case as I am fat fat fatty fat.
If I were to weigh my BMI weight i would look sick, I think whatever they say you should weigh you can add a stone and a half onto it.
Muscles are over rated I had them once, they made my arms bulge.

Re: Mum wants school to ban Sleeping beauty. We ask WHO for a response
My life is spent wandering along the line between normal and overweight on the bmi chart.

Ironically, I'm in the overweight region when I'm fitter.

More muscle mass.

If I'm injured, I lose muscle, and drop below the line. I'm presently not overweight because I'm injured.

When/if my sciatica fucks off, I'll soon be "overweight".

Basically, bmi is bollocks.

When I say slightly i do so by comparing myself to people who weigh 50 stones in those American fat proggrammes like My 600 pound life.
Basically if you are 18 stones you are practically anorexic .

If you were SLIGHTLY overweight, you wouldn't worry at all about Humpty Dumpty

I don't like the prejudice displayed towards witches in these children's tales.

"An episode contained in Perceforest, the “Histoire de Troïlus et de Zellandine,” (Book III, chapter lii) is one of the earliest known versions of the Sleeping Beauty theme. In this version, Troilus rapes Zellandine in her deep coma, and she delivers the child without waking."

Wiki entry on Perceforest

So, not the Cheech & Chong take on the tale then?

Just the classic one that clearly fucked up this particular woman's childhood so much that she now feels compelled to impose her views on life onto everybody else.

For fuck's sake!

Let the children alone with their childhood! It's bad enough the advertising industry trying to monetise them on behalf of their clients. Give us a fucking break!

Can people please stop calling this a 'fairy' story please? It's a bit homophobic.
